One of the pillars of the Chicago blues scene since the early 1950s, Eddy Clearwater has built a solid international reputation on his infectious brand of multihued blues and his high-voltage, bon vivant  performances.
Like many bluesmen, Clearwater did not meet wide-ranging recognition until relatively late in his career.  A contemporary of fellow Chicagoan southpaw Otis Rush, he did not emerge as a path tracer, but he also did not share Rush’s wildly swinging fortunes.  Clearwater owes his 50 years of steadily successful performing to his own steadfast vigor, musical versatility, and business resourcefulness.  It helped, too, that he has never had qualms about pleasing his audience or playing more commercial material than his own.
