DONAL LUNNY
guitar
Plays Guitar Left Handed with default stringing.
Irish music would not be what it is today had it not been for Dónal Lunny. Through his contributions within the seminal bands Planxty, the Bothy Band, and Moving Hearts, all of which he co-founded, he has helped shape and develop the renewed life and direction of Ireland’s traditional music culture and identity.
Appearing as producer and/or musician on more than 150 different albums, the “inventor” of the Irish bouzouki, Dónal Lunny has been one of the prime architects of today’s thriving Irish roots music. A few of the artists with whom he has worked as musician and/or producer include Bono, Elvis Costello, The Everly Brothers, Indigo Girls, Mark Knopfler (see rock section), Van Morrison, Kate Bush, Dan Ar Braz, Danny Doyle, Christy Moore, Sinéad O’Connor, Kevin Burke, Altan, Carlos Núñez, Sharon Shannon, Clannad, Julian Lennon, and Rod Stewart.
