The Left-Handed Guitar Players That Changed Music By John Engel
JULES SHEAR

Plays Guitar Left Handed Upside/Down.

Whether he is writing, recording or performing, Jules Shear accompanies himself on guitar.  He might not be readily considered (nor does he think of himself as) a ‘guitarist,’ yet the ubiquity of the guitar in his work, its role as a writing tool, and the peculiar way in which he plays the instrument – which affects the chordal and tonal choices of his compositions – make Jules Shear a stellar representative of the single-minded pursuits displayed in these pages.
Jules Shear has always traveled his own road, ever since his musical quest first brought him to Los Angeles from his native Pittsburgh at the age of 21.  Commercial considerations have followed rather than dictated his choices, and his unique career takes its cues from the imperatives of his muse.  Shear is the singer/songwriter par excellence.  His work is at once recognizable and fresh.  His inspiration, both lyrical and musical, seems an ever-flowing spring that fashions simple-seeming yet consistently intriguing songs.
An amazing artist, described in detail in the book Uncommon Sound.
