In band(s) : ENGLISH BEAT, GENERAL PUBLIC

Dave Wakeling was first the lead singer, lyricist and main songwriter of the two-tone group which arguably produced the highest-quality material in that movement; it still sounds fresh and exciting today.  Wakeling’s group, known to the world as The Beat, was called The English Beat in the U.S., to avoid confusion with a contemporaneous West-Coast band called The Beat led by singer/drummer Paul Collins.

Wakeling went on to co-found General Public, a direct offshoot of The Beat and a popular 1980s band.  He has since completed solo projects as well as performing with his own band, mostly on the West Coast, preparing a finely chiseled crop of original songs which promise to be head-turners.
