Charles Wright has now made it his calling to keep classic R&B music alive.  But his most important and acknowledged musical contribution took place in the late 1960s as the front man of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, the pioneering eight-piece group that helped transform R&B into funk.
While his best-known composition, 1970’s “Express Yourself,” has been a staple on radio and television via countless commercial soundtracks and song samples, Wright has written a number of other highly engaging tunes over the years in a generally moral, uplifting tone.
