ATAHUALPA YUPANQUI
guitar
Plays Guitar Left Handed with default stringing.
Atahualpa Yupanqui, or ‘Don Ata,’ as he was amicably called in his later years, is not only the most important singer-songwriter and guitarist ever to hail from Argentina, he is one of the greatest and most influential folk music artists in all of Latin America.
Yupanqui became a hero of France’s post-war intelligentsia of the 1950s and a friend of artist Pablo Picasso, celebrated poets Louis Aragon and Paul Eluard, seminal chanteuse Edith Piaf, and other major artistic figures. His powerful poetry, songs and commanding solo performances reached as far as North America, Japan, North Africa, and Russia.
The recipient of numerous awards, Yupanqui was an incisive poet-songwriter and a composer of refined solo guitar music. His music is folk in its roots and its lyrical concern for the poor and the oppressed; however, its reach beyond cultural walls and its literary breadth make it a uniquely profound and universal poetic and musical expression.
